BalanceTest is Zinzino's at-home dried blood spot test. A few drops of blood from a fingertip go onto the test card, which you mail in. The sample is analysed anonymously by Vitas Analytical Services, an independent laboratory, and your results appear at zinzinotest.com using only your test ID, usually within 10 to 20 days. What it measures: 11 fatty acids in your blood, reported as six markers: Omega-3 Index, Omega-6:3 Balance, Protection Value, cell membrane fluidity, Mental Strength and the AA (arachidonic acid) index. How it is used: Zinzino's approach is test, then supplement, then retest after 120 days. The first test shows your starting point; the retest shows what changed. The test is certified under EU directive 98/79/EC for in vitro diagnostic devices. BalanceTest is not available in New York. BalanceTest is made and sold by Zinzino. Omega-3 Index

The sum of the percentage values for EPA and DHA. Zinzino's stated ideal combined level is at least 8 percent, with higher values desirable.

Omega-6:3 Balance

Arachidonic acid divided by EPA, expressed as a ratio such as 3:1. Zinzino's guidance is that the balance should preferably be below 3:1.

Protection Value

Three indicators (the Omega-6 ratio, the Omega-3 level and the balance value) combined into a 0 to 100 score; Zinzino says it should ideally be above 90 and describes fatty acid protection level only, not health status.

Cell Membrane Fluidity

Saturated fats divided by the two marine Omega-3s, expressed as an index; a value below 4:1 shows sufficient fluidity in cell membranes, as Zinzino defines it.

Know Your Omega-6:3 Balance

BalanceTest analyses the fatty acids in a few drops of capillary blood from a fingertip using the dried blood spot technique, which Zinzino states is as accurate as a venous sample for fatty acid analysis. Vitas Analytical Services, an independent GMP-certified laboratory, anonymously analyses the percentage content of 11 fatty acids, which together represent about 98 percent of the fatty acids in the blood and reflect your diet over the last 120 days. Results appear at zinzinotest.com after about 10 to 20 days, under your test ID only.

Take your first BalanceTest, start your daily Balance product at once, continue for 120 days, then take a second BalanceTest to see how your fatty acid profile has changed. Should your first result already show an Omega-6:3 Balance of 3:1 or better, Zinzino asks you to contact them, since you do not need the Balance product.
